CortneyCortney moved to Virginia in 1991 after traveling the world with her Air Force family. Her personal struggle with weight loss after college sparked her interest in the fitness industry, soon after Cortney began her career in fitness and management with Bally Total Fitness Center. In 1999 she was introduced to Curves and saw Curves as a major breakthrough in women’s fitness. She went on to open five Curves locations in Hampton Roads with her success recognized by the Daily Press in 2003 when they awarded her the “Top 10 Business Women Under 30” Achievement Award. Cortney’s challenge of balancing work and life inspired her to create what she calls “a safe haven, an outlet, an escape from the stresses of life” and hence Zenya Yoga & Massage Studio was born in 2005. Surrounded by a group of talented and truly inspirational yoga instructors sparked an idea and desire as a group to reach more people outside the walls of the Zenya studio. As the saying goes about fishing it can also be said about yoga; “If you teach someone yoga they’ll have peace for a day; if you empower them to become a teacher of yoga they’ll have and create peace for a lifetime.” This is the foundation in which Zenya Yoga Academy was built and continues to grow.

In her free time Cortney enjoys cycling, traveling & experiencing other cultures and spending time with family and friends. She believes that fulfillment in life is said best in Whitman’s quote “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
